Grünerløkka, Oslo, Norway: Craft beer culture is alive and well in Oslo this week with the announcement that Oslo’s smallest commercial brewery is now officially open for business. Little Brother Brewery, co-founded by two Australian brothers, Cameron and Andrew Manson, has received its commercial production license. This license allows the brothers to sell their hand crafted ales to local bars and restaurants. The brewery is located on the outskirts of the trendy Grünerløkka district which is known for its vibrant café and bar culture. Although there have been many preceding years of brewing for family and friends, this young brewery is now ready to share its handcrafted real ales to the discerning beer drinkers of Oslo.
With a floor area of only 56 square metres and a capacity to produce 80 litres of beer per batch, Little Brother Brewery is arguably the smallest and most boutique brewery in Oslo and possibly the whole of Norway. Cameron, the younger of the two brothers and the resident Brewmaster says with a laugh, “I know the craft beer scene pretty well here and I can’t think of a smaller commercial brewery than ours.” Cameron goes on to say that, “we’re not about quantity; we’re all about quality and enriching craft beer culture.” Their first offering is an India Pale Ale (IPA) which is loaded with hops for those who like their brew fragrant and bitter.
In the coming months, the brothers also hope to offer regular beer tasting nights which will pair their beers with local food produce. In addition, they’ll be holding beer brewing courses, which will allow home brewers to take the next step into full grain brewing. This humble little brewery is ready to take orders from local bars and restaurants and Cameron is keen to show people around the brewery. At the moment, the brewery doors are open to visitors from 6:30pm till 7:30pm every Wednesday evening.
